Turn on your RADAR

I kept getting results I didn’t want but I didn’t know why…
- Friction in my marriage
- Inconsistency with money
- Inconsistent physical and emotional well-being
Sometimes I’d nail it and get the desired job or relational harmony but it was almost like it was an accident.
I didn’t know how to do it repeatedly, on purpose.
Most of the time, trying to get to where I wanted to go felt like I was blind-folded, trying to pin that damn tail on the donkey, like I’m back at my eighth birthday party.
Every now and again, I’d get it right. But usually not and I had no idea why.
It was like something I couldn’t see was sabotaging my best efforts.

It went beyond frustration, turning into deep seated frustration, discontentment and even bitterness.
Then my coach, Don, showed me areas in my thinking that came from past experiences that were directly influencing my decisions, and at times produced outcomes that were opposite from what I truly wanted.
The smartest brain scientists in the world say roughly 95% of our daily activities are subconscious. That is, they occur automatically. We brush our teeth in the same pattern, wash our bodies in the same pattern, and so on.
Even our views about money, the world, politics, immigration, religion, ice cream… generally stay about the same… for life.
Quick question: did you intentionally form yours? Or did your parents or other authority figures in your life install their own thinking in your mind and leave you to work with that for your life?
Those same smart brain scientists say we’re nearly entirely “programmed” by the time we’re seven years old.
Doesn’t sound like we had much choice in the matter.
So, what do we do about that?!
In order to change something in our life, we cannot simply do differently, we must think differently, which comes from our subconscious mind.
We must increase our awareness.
It comes down to noticing. We must improve our noticing skills.
We’re only consciously aware of that which “catches our eye” or better yet, lands “on our radar”.
It’s a common phrase… “On my radar, off the radar, under the radar, below the radar.”
For our purposes, it’s a fitting framework – simple, actionable and immediately effective.
This is the process of increasing awareness.
I invite you to begin mastering your perception so you can master your life’s direction.

Master your perception so you can master your life’s direction.
1. Reflection
What experiences from your past could be shaping your attitude toward life, or your world-view. Reflection is a supercharger for our noticing skills.
2. Awareness
Ask yourself experiential questions.
- How did those experiences make you feel?
- What were your thoughts about them?
- Were they a fit for you, or not? (congruency)
- What current patterns can you identify that connect to past experiences?
- When and why did your reactions become habits?
3. Determine
What could be adjusted to better serve you, your goals, your core values?
4. Adjust
Adjust the angle from which you see the story.
This is where you’re going to create a new, but still true, story that serves you.
Example:
Old Angle –
I’m failing in life because my parents didn’t equip me for success.
Different Angle –
My parents didn’t equip me for success in life, so I will myself.
5. Repeat
A. Repeat the new story, consciously reinforcing it, until it becomes unconscious and part of you. This becomes a new belief that is guaranteed to produce different outcomes. (this is why being intentional about it is a matter of living fulfilled versus living frustrated)
B. Apply the R.A.D.A.R. framework to any area you desire change in.
