I made this video and thought you might appreciate it today.
Nikki and I got back from our 3rd’s baseball game around noon. It was about 40 minutes away. We took backroads home, as usual. We love doing that. It’s peaceful and you see all the properties with space you might like to have and it gives you material for dreaming of the future.
Lots of horses and cows too and I prefer them to Tampa’s drivers, as a whole.
I was finishing up some work in the backyard, so I was hot.
I dove head first into the 82 degree water (that’s chilly for florida folk)
In this case it was crisp and refreshing (sometimes I feel like a TV commercial voice) but it was was!
I just took it in, spinning underwater like a baby sea lion and maybe pretending to be one, (mind your business, it makes me happy) and then I came up.
I felt the warm sun – it’s also 82F outside today with a committed cool autumn breeze 🙂 In some regions, locals refer to this in their native tongue as “P-E-R-F-E-C-T” hahaha
At the game this morning we were even in jeans and hoodies and comfortable!
Pretty solid day. I was feeling grateful and just reminding God that I’m super thankful…
Then this story popped in my head and I wanted to share it with you –
I was 12 and wanted the baddest new Haro BMX bike on the market. This thing was like $500 and I did not come from a family or neighborhood that spent that kind of money on bikes. Well, except that one kid’s family.
One day to my amazement my mom and I went to the bike shop and got that vibrant metallic blue, low profile down-tube badass Haro Shredder.
I rode it out of the shop like I was on Aladdin’s freakin carpet and all the wishes were mine! I was totally obsessed. And that day I FELT proof that my mom loved me.
The bike was something shallow. Metal & rubber and paint & stickers. But it meant the WORLD to 12 year old Adam. So regardless that my parents never bought me more than one pillow in 18 years growing up 😉 that day I got proof that MY DESIRES mattered to my mom because that mattered to me.
Our desires matter to God. Your desires matter to the Father. Big time.
Jesus’ earthly brother James, another of Mary’s sons, said, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father…”
You know I destroyed my family. Look at what’s happened since. It’s crazy!
Today it’s almost entirely what my family life has become that gives me proof of God’s love and liking of me. Even caring about “shallow” things like being granted living in a place your heart desires, craves… Whether it be in an igloo, on a mountain or poolside in the winter… we all have some specific wants.
King Solomon said, “So I decided there is nothing better than to enjoy food and drink and to find satisfaction in work. Then I realized that these pleasures are from the hand of God.”
Who am I to disagree with the wisest man to ever live?
